The Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching Holds a Workshop on Problem Solving-Based Learning at An-Najah

Thu, 2012-05-10

The Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching at An-Najah University held a workshop on problem solving-based learning project which is implemented by Dr. Aidah Al-Kaissi, Head of the Nursing and Midwifery Department at An-Najah, and the teaching staff at the Department which included Shorouq Qadous, Najwa Subuh, Mahdiya Al-Koni, Samah Ishtayyeh, and Fatima Hirzallah.

Dr. Abdel Kareem Daraghmah, Director of the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching, opened the workshop through a welcoming speech. Dr. Al-Kaissi and Mrs. Dana Adas delivered a presentation about the problem solving-based learning which was used in the project that was applied to the Intensive Nursing Care course at the Department of Nursing and Midwifery.

The project targeted 47 third year nursing students who were divided into 6 groups that were supervised by the participating professors. The project lasted for 14 weeks in which the students were given the chance to engage in discussions with the professors over subjects related to real-life cases in order to enable them to link their theoretical knowledge with real situations.

This approach helps the students to get used to working together and find solutions for different cases and problems, as well as applying what they learn in the class on the ground.
